Preschool Activities

A week off of work means one packed preschool vacation. I crammed as much activities as I could manage and lived my original dream life as a stay at home mom.
We went to our favorite park, Park 365 (formerly Arc Park) with my Nana who basically stood watch over Shia while I chased my toddler around.

I got a ton of ideas off of Pinterest and I don't pretend to have come up with these activities all on my own.

The first was a Cheerio tower. He did a wonderful job stacking the Cheerios on a pasta noodle, but was distracted by the occasional snacking.

We also learned our shapes and practiced tracing them. He is still not super excellent with a pencil yet, so matching seemed to yield the most success.

If you know me at all, you know that I am very strict about bedtimes. However, this was a special week, so I let him stay past 8 pm...yes 8 pm... until it got a little darker and we could catch fireflies in his PJs. One of them actually came by our front door so we decided to capture him and let him sleepover that night, letting him go back home the next morning, of course. Summer time and fireflies just go together!

Secondly, following the Brother's day theme, he made a card for Shia. I used an empty toilet paper roll to manage a heart stamp and he had so much fun decorating his card, that he made a few more masterpieces as well..This was also his first attempt at using glue, very exciting.

That day we learned about numbers as well and used his favorite thing to count, his snacks. The goal for me wasn't for him to simply count the raisins, but also to identify the number.

Another fun activity we did is make a paper chain. I cut out strips of various colors to get him to identify each color. Which is not his strongest skill, so it took a bit of practice. I had thought of introducing patterns with this activity as well but colors are overwhelming enough as it seemed.

We also had a couple play dates with his best friend, Cooper, and went to the library for more socializing and fun toys!
I gave colors another try by just isolating 3 legos and let him organize his legos according to what color matches. He seemed way more comfortable with that and is now so much better at naming colors!

Of course, the week seemed to be over as soon as it started. I am so incredibly grateful for the jobs I have that allow me to spend time with my sons. After this week, the dream of being a working mom and homeschooling seemed to not be so far fetched. With the right team and pristine time management skills, perhaps it could be possible...
