Shia's First Apple Picking

It's fall, ya'll!

Every September, I make the daring decision to go apple picking. Every year I forget that September is actually extended summer...Is it really ever apple picking in VA if you're not wearing shorts? At least my shirt was orange...

This was Ronin's first time NOT going to Carter Mountain. I used to love going to there as a kid but now that everyone on the planet knows about it, it's hardly worth the drive. So we went to Chiles Orchard instead. There were no uphill drives (you're welcome mom), no porter potties, no lines, no crowds, no hills, no mudslides...it was sublime.

As you all know, Shia is not a fan of the outdoors, so I brought the double stroller as opposed to the wagon. That way the boys had some shade and since there were no hills to really worry about, it worked out perfectly!

Most of my family joined in the fall fun. Which is excellent because there are always eyes on a certain adventurous little boy with a bolting impulse. Ronin was able to pick his own apples this year, there were a few apples dangling on the lower branches closer to the ground. He was so excited to be able to pick them right off the tree all by himself.

The pumpkin patch was a lot of fun too, we were baking, but managed to get a few obligatory Fall pics. Ronin picked out his pumpkin and sat on top of a tractor! The boy fears nothing...one of the many things I love about him :)

We had lunch under an awning which was complete with blocks, cornhole, and a garbage truck toy? It was the perfect place for families. My siblings and I took a lot of fun pictures. We really are like the travelling circus where ever we go, but we don't mind.

Thankfully, Shia was content to sit in the stroller all day and was a good sport, despite the miserable heat. He doesn't have any teeth so the only way he was able to enjoy the riches of his spoils was in the form of apple sauce. He was very happy to oblige...

I think it's safe to say that Chilles Orchard will be our new apple-picking destination..just maybe not in "Second August".
